My name is Karl and I am serving Police Officer with West Mercia Police on the Roads Policing Unit. Outside of work life revolves around the rescue dogs that reside with us. One of those dogs is Toby.

Toby is a retired Police specialist search dog, having served the West Mercia communities he has now retired to our care. Toby has turned 13 years of age today (01/05/23).

I am walking the length of the Malvern Hills on Saturday 17th June 2023 to raise much needed funds for the retired Police Dogs of West Mercia. Toby will be present at key points of the hills walk. The other miles covered I will be accompanied by one of our other 6 dogs.

The Charity:

"West Mercia Retired Police Dog Welfare Fund is a not-for-profit organisation, providing welfare support in any form necessary, to enrich the lives of our Retired Police Dogs. We, rely solely on public donations to help us achieve this aim.

We receive no public funding, police dogs do not receive a pension, we have no paid appointments within our ranks and are staffed entirely by dog loving volunteers, who value the work done by of our fantastic dogs throughout their service.

We register our dogs with the Fund, free of charge at the point of retirement because we know how difficult it can be for the owners to obtain affordable insurance for these dogs. They may require specialist help to adapt to a normal domestic home setting or may require long term medication.

Whatever the need we are there to help."
