Story
THE SITUATION?
Storm Daniel has devastated the lives of tens of thousands of innocent people in the Eastern region of Libya.
Estimates of the death toll so far are in excess of 11,000 people; with more people dying every minute.
The hospitals are desperately short of medical supplies!
Temporary shelter is needed to re-home tens of thousands of people who saw their homes, and entire lives, wiped out in minutes; and now have no where to go!
Disease is about to spread like wildfire due to lack of clean water and lack of proper sanitation!
People will soon start to die of starvation due to lack of food!
WHY DONATE TO US?
Following my Ambulances for Ukraine initiative last year, where we raised over £45,000 through JustGiving, and in total we delivered circa £300,000 of urgent medical equipment and supplies to those that needed it most in Ukraine.
From launching the JustGiving page to delivering 6 ambulances full of medical supplies into Ukraine was less than 2 weeks! The speed of that action is simply not possible by the big charities.
Grassroots philanthropy also ensures every penny you donate goes to those that need it most.
Now, I am asking for your support again!
As a half Libyan, with family and friends in country, I am getting live updates of what is required from the hospitals and aid workers on the ground and have the logistics channels available right now to get the aid where it is needed most and to get it there very quickly!
THE ASK?
I plan to raise at least £10,000 to fund the purchase of urgent equipment and supplies that are desperately in need in Libya right now.
My primary focus in the short term is to source mobile communications technology which can be used by aid workers to coordinate the efforts. Last year with the Ukraine effort I quickly learnt that with so many amazing people wanting to help but not coordinating their efforts, certain hospitals would be overstocked with urgent supplies that were desperately need elsewhere whilst that place that needed them may be overstocked with supplies that the other hospital needed.
Beyond that, there is also a desperate need to communicate with paramedics and other health care providers to let them know where they are needed most. I am currently looking at a number of options, however, in the short term we will focus on satellite phones as these are easier to attain and can be delivered to Libya quickly.
As well as mobile communications, we are also going to support with urgent medical supplies. I have direct connection with relevant hospitals and ministries who are providing me with what is needed most at any given time. So whether that's donating on here so I can buy them and deliver, or if you have access to medical supplies that you can donate, that would really have a huge impact on saving lives.
I also want to do what I can to support with temporary shelter and living accomodation. Tens of thousands of people have been made homeless in an instant and having clean and safe places to stay is vital to stop further deaths from illness and homelessness.
Further to those the above priorities, any extra funds we have will be spent on drinking water, sanitation and non-perishable foods.
CREDENTIALS?
The BBC are interviewing me today to help raise awareness. Last year, the campaign spread around the world even being spoken about in The White House by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Below are some links to news articles about our project last year and the success it has in saving many lives.
