    Story

Being able to enjoy some time on the beach with your friends and family is one of life's great pleasures. In Fleetwood we are blessed with a beautiful coastline and stunning views across to the Lake District, a perfect place to relax and have fun but not accessible to everyone.

As a wheelchair user myself, I know how frustrating it can be to not get on the beach. In 2018 I just happened to be on the Promenade for the very first demonstration of a beach wheelchair in Fleetwood. I asked to have a go and that afternoon has changed my life!

Almost exactly 2 years after I first heard about the plans, Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs is now operating and I am proud to say I am a Trustee. We are a registered charity, run entirely by volunteers and rely on donations and successful funding applications. Read more at https://www.fleetwoodbeachwheelchairs.co.uk/

I'm often down on the Prom to walk my dog and catch up with the regulars at Dave's Cafe by the Central car-park but now I'm also there most weekends to help where I can with this fabulous charity. It's been a lot of hard work to get the service started but the response since we launched in September has been amazing! People are saying it's the first time in years, sometimes the a first ever, they've been on the beach and the smiles, laughter and thank you's make it so worthwhile.

So what's this page all about ... well as you can see from my profile picture, I could do with a hair cut so I thought why not go for it and have my head shaved and raise money for the charity too. On Sunday 1st November at 12 noon Katrinna of Trimmers, Radcliffe Road will be taking off all my head hair!

If you would like to support me and Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs please make a donation on this page, whatever you can afford. Every £ we raise is going towards purchasing more specialist chairs and equipment, our on-going costs, and you will be helping us to make memories for many more people.

    Thank you.

Well done Reece and highlighting the need for wheelchair access on the beach is essential and something we don't all think about but will now because of the awareness.
