Hello everyone!

I have been a volunteer hedgehog rehabilitator for several years now, whilst rewarding it is also very time consuming.

I have currently got one female adult hedgehog and 5 babies which she had whilst in my care. She actually came to me with another adult male from an animal sanctuary. Luckily she cared for the hogletts but now they are weened and I have three cages to wash, remake and top up with food at least three times a day. This all comes at a cost to cover the gloves, cleaning equipment, cages, bowls, houses, bedding and food. The average weekly cost currently is £100 to cover the essentials. The time, care and houses which are purchased to go with them on their release are not included in this.

I love looking after them and the recent babies were very exciting and they are all fit and healthy. I am promoting this page to help cover the costs of caring for the hedgehogs. The long term dream is to expand the unit to create a separate area for the hedgehogs with a sink and storage for the medical and cleaning equipment. This is currently conducted in a 2 bedroom house and does inconvenience every day life as they have to be moved throughout the day if the rooms are needed for washing and cooking etc.

I do fundraising throughout the year and have a lovely group of supporters, but the money raised usually covers 2-3 months at the most.
Current fundraising events include -
Attending summer fetes
Cake sales
Day trips
Xmas party
Hedgehog week awareness charity night
Skittles evenings

Obviously all of this takes time too and sometimes when very sick hedgehogs are in they need all my time and I am not able to attend the events to raise money.

Please please share and share again as every little helps and hopefully I can rehabilitate more if the separate area can be built in the future.
There were estimated to be 30 million hedgehogs in the 1950s but thought to be less than 1 million now!
