Story
I am fundraising money for a 4-week trip to Uganda in the summer of 2021. Working through Camps International, I will be supporting local communities and wildlife projects. Many Ugandan citizens lack water security; more than 50% live below the poverty line; life expectancy is only 59-60. To impact these statistics, I will - among other things - build and improve access to schools and work to repair river banks.
Period poverty is also extensive in Uganda. More than 27% of young women stop school as soon as their period starts, and the rest have notable amounts of absence due to their periods. This is because of the awful water and sanitary hygiene facilities in the schools which causes many to fall ill and the lack of sanitary products which are both expensive and scarce in Uganda. For this reason, if my expedition falls through because of Covid or I raise any extra money, all proceeds will go to helping period poverty in both Uganda and the UK.

4 years agoYesterday, I finished 26 consecutive days of climbing the Snake Pass on my bike to surpass the height of Mount Everest (9048 meters). It was tough! However, it was very rewarding physically, mentally and many people were generous and kind enough to donate. Overall I raised £1,634 through the generosity of many people. I would just like to say thank you again! Rebecca X

5 years agoCommencing on the 1st July, I will be cycling up the Snake once daily for 26 days, completing 9048 metres (29685ft) of ascent - 200 metres (656ft) higher than Everest! The worldwide pandemic has put my other fundraising ideas on hold, but I have found an even BIGGER challenge to complete! My trip to Uganda is scheduled for summer 2021 and as of the moment, going ahead. If it is cancelled (or I raise over my target), I will be donating all the money I raise to reduce period poverty in both Uganda and the UK. Thank you for your donation.
