Story
This is lily. She is 11 this year. I rescued her from the local dump when she was 7 weeks old, along with her sister. Someone horrible dumped a bag of kittens.
She has always been healthy, she's an indoor cat who is harness trained so loves spending time outside when the weather is nice sunbathing and smelling the flowers.
I found a lump on her spine. My heart dropped but I had a feeling I knew what it was.
Today it was confirmed as FISS (feline injection site sarcoma).
This is a highly aggressive for of cancer. Which is a result of injection sites, and of vaccines which contained aluminium.
It was discovered in 1991, and the practise now is to inject at legs or tail (as if a sarcoma forms they can be amputated).
Yet I have only ever known vets to inject at the neck. Unfortunately now I know better. As well as being so upset I can hardly breath, I am furious that this was allowed to happen.
I have been off work due to mental health for a year and a half (worked in healthcare during the pandemic), and I'm struggling with money.
I love lily more than I love anything. She is my best friend. My constant companion.
I cannot express, that literally anything is a massive help.
I have been given 3 options
1. Aggressive surgery with chemo and radio (which will cost between 3 and 5k)
2. Surgery alone which is around 1500. But it has a high chance of allowing it to recur, depends on the margins and effectiveness of the surgery.
3. Palliative care. Which is so heartbreaking I want to throw up.
Also, if anyone has experience with FISS please do let me know your stories.
