Story
Judging by the picture I've chosen to use you'd probably wonder what's wrong and at the time this picture was taken nothing was wrong, it was a nice family day out enjoying a 5 year olds birthday. On December 18th this year just less than a week ago the family had some of the worst news they could get. 5 year old Liam was diagnosed with a type of leukemia called Birketts which is a rare form of it. This may mean a shorter treatment time but it's a more aggressive treatment that can only be done at Birmingham children's hospital (it's the closest one to them that can treat it anyway). The family live in Telford, this means for dad Andy and older brother Callum it will be daily trips to and from Telford to Birmingham to see kerry and Liam.
So we (the rest of the family) have decided to set this page up with hope of raising money to help with petrol and hospital parking costs as well as maybe family days out when Liam's having a good day.
We know it's only a few days from Christmas and everyone's probably struggling money wise but if you could please donate even if it's a pound it would all help so much. We know Liam will beat this he's a very determined little boy. On behalf of the family we thankyou for reading and donating.
EDIT - this appeal was set up quickly after the diagnosis out of a need for Liam's extended family to feel like we were doing something. A small target was set thinking only we'd be donating. Now Liam has a diagnosis and treatment plan, we realise that Liam is going to need an aggressive course of chemo over the next 6 months at least. We'd like to raise as much as possible to cover the additional expense (driving between Telford and Birmingham and back daily, parking, additional childcare for his older brother etc) and this means his parents can focus on the boys without worrying how long they can be away from work. With this in mind, we've increased the target. Thank you all for your continued support x

8 years agoJust to keep you all updated, Friday we had the devastating news that the chemo Liam was currently on had stopped working meaning he's relapsed while having treatment reducing his chances from 70-80% to 10%. He started a new course of chemo yesterday though and seems so far to be doing well although tired. I know he's had a brain scan today but so far I've not spoken to Kerry or Andy to see if the results are back. Fingers, toes and everything else are crossed for him. 100% he's a fighter and we know he's got this with the support of everyone.

8 years agoSo the page closes tomorrow. We would all like to thank each and everyone of you for your donations still can't belive how much you've helped. Liam's now out of isolation and is ready for chemo, safe to say he's kicking butt so far and still has further to go. Please follow his Facebook blog Liam Finazzi-my battle against Birkett leukemia for full updates on him. Again thank you so much we're all incredibly grateful. I'll leave you all with this picture of him smiling with Kerry. Love to everyone x

8 years agoI went to see Liam yesterday & managed to get some smiles. He's still in isolation & his temperature went back up again yesterday so the earliest they'll be out before chemo is Sat night. This page closes on Sunday but its likely we'll be setting up another at some point as we know various people are fundraising for him. They don't get any of this until the page closes & to be honest they need it. Kerry/Andy have set up a Facebook blog under Liam Finazzi - My Battle Against Burkitt Leukemia if anyone would like to follow his progress. Thank you

8 years agoSuch a difference within a few hours. Left picture was him yesterday morning, his PCA dosage had been increased which really seems to have helped with the pain in his mouth/throat. His neutrophils are now 1.2 so hopefully his throat will start to heal in the next few days before he starts chemo again Monday. However the picture on the right was him yesterday afternoon. He's managed to catch a cold and has been put in isolation. Fingers crossed it clears quick as I know him and Kerry would like to be home for a few days.
