Story

As the COVID-19 crisis developed, it soon became clear there was a national shortage of appropriate PPE in the form of face shields (amongst other shortages of PPE). A number of schools, colleges and universities started to use their 3D printing facilities to manufacture frames that could be used with sheet PVC to create a suitable face shield. St John the Baptist school in Woking started making these and asked if we could help with the manufacture of frames. The local demand for these products was much greater than expected. As our current 3D printer was several years old, it was slow and problematic when trying to print large quantities throughout the day. The PTA kindly agreed to fund an upgrade to facilitate more frames being printed. This has increased production significantly and we are now producing between 20 and 30 a day. Overall, the efforts of the two schools have delivered over 500 face shields to local NHS staff and other care workers. The demand is still high and we currently have orders for over 150 more. This fundraiser will be used to replace some of the money the PTA have spent on this project, so they can continue their excellent and invaluable work within the school when we return to normality. With other PTA events cancelled or postponed this year, there have been limited fundraising opportunities. Any amount you can spare is much appreciated.
