    Story

Like many sports clubs during the current COVID 19 Pandemic, Rainford Cricket Club has lost many of its normal income streams whether they be the Annual Dinner, Golf Days or the awesome ”Picnic in the Park” Music Festival. To help with the ongoing running costs, make ground improvements, replace ageing and old ground equipment and provide updated practice facilities for our junior members a group of members, players, sponsors and friends of Rainford Cricket Club are undertaking a sponsored walk on a route visiting other cricket clubs in the St Helens area. Covering over 28 miles in total, the group will be starting and finishing at Rainford CC and taking in clubs such as Prescot and Odyssey, Rainhill, Sutton, St Helens Town, Newton Le Willows and Haydock Cricket Clubs.

The walk is planned to take place on Saturday 13th March, Covid restrictions permitting. Should it not be possible to undertake the walk on that day it will be the first available Saturday that Covid circumstances permit.

Steve Harrison is the driving force behind this fundraising idea which is expected to see over 20 volunteers, including representatives from the clubs' main sponsors Just Accounts Limited (Barry Florida James) and O2 Communications Plus Limited (Steve & Liza Roberts) taking part.

    Update 5 April 2021

On behalf of Rainford Cricket Club, I would like to thank everyone for their generous donations for the Marathon Walk. The day was very successful with the weather holding off to allow all the walkers to complete the miles on the route around the cricket clubs in the area. Many thanks to Prescott & Odyssey and Newton Le Willows Cricket clubs for allowing the use of their facilities for 31 walkers who took part on the day. The camaraderie and support given to the walkers on the day was fantastic. Finally, I wanted to thank all the walkers for putting their bodies on the line and also the brilliant support vehicles (John, Jen, Carol, Chris and Cath) for providing much needed refreshments along the way.

The amount raised of £7,343 is far beyond our wildest expectations and we as a club can not thank everyone enough. The funds have already been put to good use already as the club has been able to replace old and ageing ground equipment with updated mowers for the square and outfield.
