Story
Everywhere in Britain, the railway scene is changing and modernising. Familiar railway sights like signal boxes will soon be a thing of the past, unless we act now.
We want to save 3 old Midland railway signal boxes and signalling equipment so that we can rebuild them for future generations to enjoy on our steam railway.
The newly formed Vale of Berkeley Railway in Gloucestershire is dedicated to saving railway artefacts from the past that are disappearing fast so that we can restore them to their former glory. Then we can show future generations the magic of the old steam era railways.
We are on the point of obtaining 3 of these lovely old signal boxes, together with a supply of Victorian equipment through our links with Network Rail. This could happen within a very few weeks and we will need to pay to remove them, transport them to Gloucestershire and then begin the job of rebuilding them at their new home.
If we can raise £5000, we can pay for the dismantling and transport costs, move them and then start to renovate them. With your help, they can be made as good as new, displayed and used on a working steam railway to be enjoyed by everyone
This is a once in a lifetime chance to save items from the railways of the past. If these go for scrap, they are gone for ever.
Please help us raise this money as soon as possible.

8 years agoHi, this is just to thank everyone who contributed to the Signal Box Appeal. 12 of you raised £320 which is excellent as this is not something we have done before. The money will be added to the VoBR Signal Box fund which will go towards the cost of bringing the 3 Midland boxes we have saved to Sharpness. Stroud VTEC have already said they are sponsoring the box that will be located at Oldminster Junction and we hope that other people will also help to get the other boxes refurbished. Thank you again for your generosity. Howard

8 years agoIn just over 2 weeks we have got to £300, which is excellent. So thank you very much to everyone for your generosity. At Sharpness, we are starting to get busy refurbishing the signalling equipment that has already arrived. The paperwork for the 3 Midland boxes is still being finalised with NR but we hope this wont take long now. Then there will be the expense of bringing them down to us. So please keep donations coming in by telling your railway friends about the appeal Thank you very much indeed.
