Story

I am walking 50 miles in 24 hours to raise money for our KS4 learners to have the experience of a lifetime.

Ysgol Hendrefelin is a special school for pupils with learning difficulties. It is situated in Neath Port Talbot, a socially deprived area in South Wales. Many of our pupils have never had the opportunity to go away on holidays, for a variety of reasons and, because of our large catchment area, often pupils do not experience out of school activities and sleep-overs with friends. We run an annual residential trip to Manor Adventure Outdoor Activity Centre, near the Brecon Beacons. This gives our older learners a fantastic opportunity to try out a range of activities from climbing to assault courses, problem-solving tasks and watersports. It builds confidence, self-esteem, resilience and a sense of community and belonging. It can be a life-changing experience! While the school endeavours to subsidise the trip, it is becoming increasingly difficult in the current economic climate.
