I was never particularly sporty as a child. School PE was the stuff of nightmares as I was never picked for teams in spite of my enthusiasm! It wasn't until 1988 when I headed down to Northwich Rowing Club that I realised I had any athletic potential. And I never looked back! I became a five time national medalist and represented Great Britain. In spite of my huge athletic achievements, the sport of rowing has given me so much more in life. It has given me confidence, resilience, friends for life, an extended family and even shaped my career.

Northwich Rowing Club has given me so much in my life that I would like to give something back to help it to continue to develop in the future. I volunteer as a coach with the junior section of the club. Young people who I hope will also look back in their old age and see just how the club has helped to shape their lives in a positive way.

I turn 40 at the end of May 2017 and am having a big old party at the beginning of June. Simply having my friends together in one place is all I want. But for those who would like to do something to mark the occasion, a donation to Northwich RC, however big or small would be a huge help to a place that means so much to me. We desperately need a new boathouse and any pennies donated through my 'forty fund' will mean I can leave a bit of legacy for future members long after I'm gone!
