Story
"You either take what has been dealt to you and allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down" - Josh Shipp
We are raising money for house adjustments and physio for James and his family. Donations will help him return back to his life with his baby and wife. Here are some estimated costs for items James could purchase with your kind donations:
Physio sessions £50
Portable Ramp £120
Removal of step into the flat £500
Adding sliding doors to wardrobe £500
Widening of 3 doors at home £1,500
Adjustable rise and fall kitchen worktop £2,000
Wet room £5,000
Lightweight wheel chair £5,500
On 5th October 2018 my brother had an accident that changed his life forever. James sustained an injury whilst training for the Southern Masters Olympic Weight Lifting competition, instantly paralysing him from the waist down.
James spent 5 days in intensive care after a 6-hour operation on his spine before moving to a ward in Brighton for a month, then on to Haywards Heath Hospital for another month whilst waiting for a place at Stoke Mandeville, The National Spinal Injuries Centre.
We couldn’t be prouder of his relentless positivity throughout the last 4 months. There have been some real lows, but through it all James has kept his sharp wit entertaining and supporting everyone he’s met along the way. Keeping nurses laughing and fellow patients motivated, James continues to be an inspiration to me and everyone around him.
James is determined to live in his home with his family as independently as he can, meaning large amounts of adaptations are needed. Unfortunately, there is no government funding available to make the adaptions James needs, and he won't receive any compensation. The cost of adapting his house to suit his needs are vast, so this campaign is incredibly important.
If you know my brother you'll know he has always pushed it with sport and is the most dedicated hardworking person. We will be pushing it in his honour on 4th May taking part in a Walkathon where we will be walking for James. There will also be other events taking part on the same week to raise money for PUSH IT. The Walkathon will have a range starting points all ending in Eastbourne where we will meet to celebrate the determination of my amazing brother.
Thank you for whatever help, kindness or generosity you are able to give in advance. James and his family have been amazed at how much people have helped over the past few months. It is events like this that show how much love surrounds us.
