Story
Pedal to Paris
An intrepid team from P J Livesey will be cycling from London to Paris to raise money for The Birches – an inspiring specialist support school doing incredible work.
The school neighbours our Green Walk scheme on Nell Lane at Didsbury and we’ve already met many of the great kids and the dedicated staff lead by Rob O’Hara.
The school nurtures 150 children from across South Manchester creating a vibrant atmosphere where they can develop and learn but more resources are always needed.
The school has a wish list of projects that would further enhance the pupil’s development and the PJL team is looking for support to try and make some of them happen:
• Inner Courtyard – A small inner courtyard is overgrown and practically unusable due to the roots of a cherry tree disturbing the stone sets and paving. The tree needs to be removed (potentially relocated) and the area re-surfaced and landscaped with scented planters and a water feature.
- Target: £2,000
• Forest school – There is a suitable wooded area on the site – but it’s hard to get the children in there. A gently graded ramp plus around 50m of wheelchair friendly pathway is needed to open up the space. A new shed is also needed that would accommodate pupils in wheelchairs and allow them to stay and experience an ever changing outdoor environment. There’s even talk of a fire pit.
- Target: £5,000
• Meerkats outside area – The school is bidding for £10,000 grant funding to purchase outdoor play equipment. The area also needs to be resurfaced using a mixture of soft surface and astro-turf.
- Target: £10,000
The route from London to Paris is 200 miles and the 14-strong team intends to tackle it in just three days September 14th – 17th 2018
Our training is underway in sporadic fashion but it’s a mixed group with some people completely new to cycling.
P J Livesey is providing two support vehicles to make sure we don’t lose anyone and as each team member is self-funded every single penny raised will go to the school.
Please sponsor per mile, per day or per project, just please sponsor - and help us support a local school doing incredible work.
