Story

15TH Battalion (Gower) Welch Regiment , Home Guard.

I thought I would start by introducing myself. I am a living historian and re enactor who portrays the soldier of Wales from in the Anglo Zulu Wars in 1879 to the Welsh Regiments through the Great War and into World War two.
I also am an amateur historian of the history of Swansea and Gower.

Through carrying out research on both my Grandfathers who served in both the 15th Battalion (Gower) and the 12th Battalion (Swansea) Home Guard, I noted there was no visible memorial to the service of those local people who served

In my travels I only located a very small plague with “Home Guard” on at the Anti-Aircraft memorial on Fabian way, Swansea and is easily missed. There is no apparent memorial to those who served in the Gower. Or the UK as a whole.

In light of this I will be speaking to the Reynoldston Community Council as well as a number of other Gower community Councils to ask for any possible support they could provide. Along with the Gower Society . I've the blessing from the West Glamorgan Archives, where I started my research.

One suggestion could be that a memorial could be erected on the Green in Reynoldston village (which is central to the Gower itself)? This will look to commemorate the service which has gone un noticed for too long for those local people who served in all the Gower.

However funding of such a memorial will need to be financed. For a statue of a Home Guard figure as a memorial will be between £5000 to £10,000 .

I have created this site so people and businesses can pay into support this venture.

In early September 2022 I will be looking along with some willing living historian friends to walk 21 miles from Rhossili to Mumbles in full Home Guard uniform. This is to help raise the funds for not only a memorial in the Gower but hopefully a plague to the personal who served in the 12th Swansea Battalion.

May I take this opportunity to thank you all in advance for any support ,
