    Story

I'm running the London Marathon in memory of Peter Botcherby

I'm blessed with the opportunity to run the London Marathon this year and I'm dedicating it to my father and fundraising to support lung cancer research through a micro-grant set up in Peter Botcherby's name.

Supporting lung cancer research in memory of my father Peter Botcherby

Peter Botcherby was a huge advocate of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, working within the genetics department as a geneticist before being at the forefront of IT within the hospital; serving as Computer Systems Manager for over 42 years. As a huge supporter of research, collaboration, and open source - Peter enjoyed attending conferences and collaborating with engineers and researchers.

Peter Botcherby died in December 2022 after being diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer in June 2022; just 18 months after his retirement from Guy’s and St.Thomas’.

Let's fund earlier diagnosis of lung cancer and beat it

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death because many of the symptoms don’t become apparent until the cancer is at an advanced stage.

Just completed a 30km training run around Budapest, Hungary. I hit a wall around 25km and stopped briefly to refuel with some electrolytes! Now I need to incorporate some gels into the running process but it's great to know where my limit is. Thank you so much for the overwhelming support in the last week. Thank you so much! It's been a few months since Dad passed and it feels so strange looking back at some photos at the moment. I can imagine him right here, but he's not.

5 weeks to go. 3 weeks of intense training and 2 to taper. Last week was brutal. 46km ran throughout the week. Half marathon achieved on Wednesday! Legs are feeling so much stronger than before.
