"Gender equity is often about opening the doors to women that are already open to men. Period Reality turns that on its head and says: "We need new doors altogether!" - Katerina Bambang, Gynaecologist - Trustee Period Reality
Period Reality is a global movement to achieve gender equity through system- level change. We do this by educating about and advocating for living in sync with one’s cycle.
"Oh gosh, I could never do a presentation whilst on my period. I would feel so much more confident during any other week, I would be much better at it then, too!" - Alice, UK
"In our country - this is such a taboo. Some girls aren't allowed to go to school when they are on their period. Some girls aren't even allowed to sleep in their house and are kept in a shed when they are bleeding. Education is key." - Devi, India

"I tend to come up with the most amazing ideas at seemingly random times and in the past I wanted to start on them immediately! Now I know this often happens in week 4 of my cycle and if I give it some reflection in the week of my period and carve out the details the week later, these plans are much more robust and definitely make a lot more sense!" - Sophia, Nigeria
The reality in the name Period Reality stands for the real stories we share through storytelling. The experience of people with periods around menstruation varies wildly from country to country, culture to culture and even household to household. Many of these diverse stories remain untold. Nor do we often hear about the experiences of non-binary, disabled, transgender or post-menopausal people.
"When I used to go to the gym, I had a plan that would get me to a certain goal on a certain timeline. Every day, I wanted to feel like I was getting closer to that next goal, always increasing my reps, or my weights. I have now learnt so much about how my body, my muscles, my internal systems are responding to exercising during different parts of the month, that I now plan my training depending on where I am in my cycle. I get results faster, feel better and even healthier." - Heather, US
Having a period can be a sensitive topic that we are hoping to normalise, as it affects us all; you either have a cycle or you come from one.
"Shocking how little we know about our own bodies. Understanding the tides of our cycle should be mandatory on every curriculum." - Tebogo, South Africa
Your donation will go towards covering fees for our charity registration, domain names, website hosting, launching our story bank, setting up our digital presence and will serve as the foundation on which all future impact will be build. For a full breakdown of these costs or any other questions, please reach out on marlou@periodreality.org
"There are days I feel like I cannot stop chatting and some days I just want to be by myself. Now that I understand this is largely cycle-driven, I can plan my days better and fully optimise my social days whilst also creating time and space in my diary for those quieter days. My husband and kids now know this too which has increased harmony within our family" - Atikah, Malaysia
* Quotes are extracted from 1500+ interviews, survey responses and conversations from our community from 83 different countries. They are shared anonymously and their real names are known by our team.
