Penny‘s Wings raising money for Tommy’s

Baby loss in the UK sadly affects 1 in 4 couples. It comes in many shapes and forms, at any stage throughout pregnancy, birth and infancy. And No matter the stage it happens, the reality is always life changing.

Sadly we became 1 in 4 on the 02.02.2024, when we gave birth silently to our beautiful daughter Penny Pearl Brackenridge. Penny was 35 weeks and 2 days old when we went into hospital for reduced movements. We were given the devastating news that there was no longer a heartbeat and the next step was to give birth. Following a beautiful birth we met our daughter, with her dainty features and thick dark hair, she was a picture of perfection. We will forever treasure the time and memories we had with her, however short that may have been.

There are many pains in life, but giving birth to a child you never get to raise has by far been our greatest pain. We, like many others, will carry this pain for the rest of our lives. For us, Penny will forever guide our lives, she has taught us more patience and resilience than we could ever imagine and a love and compassion we never knew could exist.

With that, we are on a mission to raise awareness for baby loss through “Penny’s Wings”. Loss is an extremely lonely journey to go through but we want people to know that they are not alone. So on the 01.02.2025 in honour of our Penny and all the other babies taken too soon, we are taking on a Team Marathon (26.2 miles) at CrossFit Glossop.

The challenge will see teams of 4 taking on 26.2 miles, split evenly across cycling, skiing, rowing and running. The team can partition the work however they want. Everything bar from the running will take place inside of CrossFit Glossop. The event will run in waves, seeing six teams start the challenge every hour on the hour! It won’t be an easy event but it is for a very worthy cause.
