Story
PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK WITH YOUR FRIENDS, AND FAMILY IF YOU’D LIKE TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK, DUE TO A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER WHO’S RECIEVED GOOD CARE FROM EITHER OF THESE TWO DEPARTMENTS/SERVICES ... IF YOU FEEL PASSIONATELY ABOUT THE CARE YOU OR YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE RECEIVED.... THEN THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO DONATE SOMETHING ... PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY, THANK YOU.... Dear friends, you may have recently seen a MAMIL out and about - that’s me a ‘Middle Aged Man In Lycra’ or in Aberystwyth University Gym on a mission to get fit and raise money for the Dyfi Ward/Cardiac Monitoring Unit at Bronglais Hospital, under the exceptional leadership and watchful eye of Dr Donogh McKeogh, where I started my journey of 50 days from the 7th December 2016. Then I was transferred onto the Cyril Evans Ward and Cardio-Thoracic HDU in Morriston where I finished my journey on the 1st Feb 2017. As you may all remember after several weeks in hospital I had Open Heart Surgery, the care I received was incredible. I then made myself a promised that when I was back on my feet that I would do my best to raise funds for these two exceptional units, with monies raised being divided equally towards the care and support of local people. My intention is to do a sponsored cycle ride along with friends and supporters to raise money for these two exceptional units. I already have a number of pledges for help and sponsorship but I am still looking for more sponsors to support and help organise along with other riders to come along and support the cause, especially if you’ve had a friend or a family member who has received the same fantastic care as I did as many others have? A big thanks for the support so far of pledged sponsors from Paul Morris Morris Bros, Gary Pemberthy Watch Obsession/Cactws, Mike Blair of Spartacus Aberystwyth, Anthony Motors Llanbadarn who will be supplying a support vehicle...Bev Thomas the Cambrian News, Heather Jones Radio Bronglais for the offer of publicity along with our official photographer who’s has volunteered his services for the ride Dewi Alun Jones. There is still plenty of time and room for many more sponsors or riders to come forward and support this very worthy cause, as who knows one day, you or a member of your family may need to use these specialised units in future years.... I also need to contact Andrew Tommo Thomas of Radio Ceredigion to ask if he could also promote this ride. So things moving forward and now that I‘ve set up this just giving link. All updates on how the fundraising is going will be published through this site on Facebook, Twitter and other media sites, so please share with your friends. For those not interested in wearing Lycra you can still support us by sponsoring us through this ‘JustGiving Site’ thats been set up for the ride by pledging a donation. The plan is for the team to ride from Bronglais where I first started my journey 2 years ago onto Morriston and return, as that was my journey. After looking on line using GPS missing out Motorways etc we find it’s about a total of around 140 miles round trip. The ride will take place over two day period on the weekend of the 25th/26th May 2019. As I said earlier hopefully I can count on your support for these two very worthy causes so please give generously as I stated earlier monies raised will be divided equally between both wards... Dr McKeogh and his Staff have decided they would use the money for the Cardio-Respirartory Dept and purchase as there in high demand. 1 x Spacelabs Lifecard Monitor and 1 x CF card the list price for 3 lifecard moitors and 3 CF cards is £6,506 and one would be around £2,135. Also after after receiving an email from the Sister and Ward Manager of the Cyril Evans Ward and Cardio-Thoracic HDU in Morriston Hospital. It was decided that their share of the monies raised will be giving to their charitable fund which is set up to benefit future patients on the ward, where they purchase new equipment (such as heart monitors, weighing scales, a bench for the garden) or anything that can benefit the patient and makes their stay more comfortable whilst on the ward. A cheque will be made payable to Cyril Evans Ward.... by identifying each departments needs we keep the monies raised out of the hospitals general fund. Thank you all for taking the time to read this long and hopefully not boring begging letter. Best wishes Paul ... Cllr Paul James, Ceredigion County Councillor for Llanbadarn Fawr, Sulien ward.

5 years agoAn update from Paul's Heart Ride: We would like to thank everyone who has made a donation to the Paul’s Heart Ride fund, the response has been overwhelming. The ride was completed over the two days and it was a pleasure for all those involved to complete the challenge that Paul initially started. The total raised, along with further donations, will shortly be presented to the two hospital wards to be spent on much needed equipment ensuring a high level of patient care.
