Story

Background

Skelton Castle Cricket Club (Est. 1876) is a small community cricket club, located on the outskirts of Skelton, North Yorkshire. For the 2021 cricket season, Skelton Castle have two teams - both juniors - under 11's and under 13's who compete in the North Yorkshire Area Cricket Council (NYACC) leagues. All training sessions and matches are organised and ran by volunteer coaches in their own time, at their own expense.

My son, Max (aged 7) recently became part of the under 11's team. What has struck me since we first started going along is what a great bunch of boys we have in the team. Every one of them has been so friendly, so encouraging and so accepting of Max (he's easily the smallest on the team!) - we really couldn't ask for a better group of young men.

The Event

To try and raise some much needed funds for the club, on Saturday 7th August I've set myself the challenge of running around all of the 10 cricket clubs in the Under 11's league. This works out at approximately 37 miles, including some pretty hilly terrain around Highcliffe Nab and Roseberry Topping!

My son Max will be joining me for the first and last legs of the run. If anyone else wants to run any of the route with me you're more than welcome :)

The Route

Saltburn Cricket Club > Skelton Castle Cricket Club (1.4 miles).

Skelton Castle Cricket Club > Guisborough Cricket Club (4.9 miles).

Guisborough Cricket Club > Great Ayton Cricket Club (6.4 miles).

Great Ayton Cricket Club > Stokesley Cricket Club (2.9 miles).

Stokesley Cricket Club > Maltby Cricket Club (7.4 miles).

Maltby Cricket Club > Yarm Cricket Club (2.6 miles).

Yarm Cricket Club > Thornaby Cricket Club (5.1 miles).

Thornaby Cricket Club > Middlesbrough Cricket Club (1.7 miles).

Middlesbrough Cricket Club > Marton Cricket Club (3.1 miles).
