Story

My name is Patricia, I’m 11 years old and I am in year 7 at Tytherington School , Macclesfield. During the last year of COVID lockdown I have been lucky to be able to go out each day into the countryside where we live in the Cheshire Peak District. I think beautiful green spaces are really important for our mental and physical health.

My school run an award scheme called the Tythy Challenge. Part of the challenge is to demonstrate that we have made big efforts to ‘strive’ to achieve something. So I’ve planned a sponsored walk to benefit a charity called the Open Spaces Society, which fights to safeguard the right of everyone in the UK to have access to good quality green space. They've been campaigning to protect rights of way, open and green spaces, common land and village greens since 1865.

On the 2nd May, 2021, I will walk between my home in Kerridge, near Bollington, to Lyme Cage, near Disley, following the Gritstone Trail, and back again. In total I will walk 20km - just under 12 miles.

I hope people will sponsor me and read about the great work of the Open Spaces Society. Thank you!

“We are overjoyed that Patricia has chosen to support the Open Spaces Society which campaign for green spaces and paths for people of all ages to enjoy. Congratulations Patricia for undertaking this challenge on our behalf, and we hope you have a really enjoyable walk.” Kate Ashbrook, General Secretary of the Open Spaces Society.
