Story
On the 9th June 2018, when we thought nothing else could go wrong, it did. I'm fundraising for my mum, Laura who is 47 and has suffered a venous stroke. Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis occurs when blood clots are formed in the veins in the brain. It is a very rare affecting 5 people in a million each year. Laura had clot retreival surgery which was extremely risky, and she came out fighting! Although, remained in a coma for 3 weeks in the Royal London Hospital.
Laura has been informed that the reason this occurred, is because of an undiagnosed overactive thyriod which has led to Grave's Disease an autoimmune disorder. On the 6th August, she was transferred to Homerton University Hospital to the Rehabilitation Unit. Laura has been left with severe right-sided weakness, unable to use her right hand or walk. However, in physio in the unit she is taking 15 steps approximately. Laura has made a fantastic recovery, despite doctors informing us it wouldn't be a great chance.
We, me, my brother and dad are very eager for her to come home, especially for christmas! Although, we are waiting for a wheelchair ramp and possible extenstion so my mum can come and have access to a shower and wet room. We are extremley eager for our mum to come home, as our dad's health isn't good either. Our dad was diagnosed in 2017, with motor neurone disease and has recentley been told his life expectancy is between 1-3 years. Because of this, Laura has been giving the option to come home in December 2018, which they don't think she will be able tl transfer herself from a chair to toilet. Or January 2019, where she may be able to. She is very unsure as this time is precious due to my dads health.
This is not something i would normally do. But i am asking for help, i want my mum home for christmas and to help give her more physio sessions when she comes home, as thry are only offering 1 session a week when she leaves the unit. Which is not enough. I know we wont get the extenstion from the council for a few years but atleast she will be home with us.
Thank you for reading.
Paige xx

I am Laura's daughter Paige. I'm raising money to make sure my mum can get extra physio sessions when she comes home. Her stroke was caused by an overactive thyroid issue
