I'm raising £1000 to support Mauritian locals, ecosystems and wildlife following the country declaring a state of environmental emergency.

The Mauritian Prime Minister has declared a state of environmental emergency appealing for help. This comes following the Japanese bulk carrier MV Wakashio carrying c.4,000 tonnes of oil ran aground on a coral reef off the Indian Ocean island on 25 July 2020.
It is thought that to date 1000 tonnes of oil (the equivalent of 79 double decker busses or 150,000 bowling balls) has already entered the water surrounding the boat.
Environmentalists are hugely concerned about the impact on the country's ecosystem.
- The coral reef is destroyed
- There are now more than 40 dolphins dead due to drowning in oil
- Clean up resources are minimal - in an attempt to stave off ecological disaster, Mauritius residents are cutting off their own hair to soak up an oil spill
- Thousands of people are protesting in Port Louis calling for a full investigation so as to stop disasters like this happening in the future
Orca Sound Project and our community are raising money to support Mauritian locals, ecosystems and wildlife including:
- Monitoring the impact of the oil spill on the marine life
- Research and studies of the marine life affected by the oil spill
- Fund conservation projects
- Any legal actions that might be considered as well
No funds will go towards the government.
Money will go directly to Eco-Sud a local NGO.
Why are we doing this:
Because we can not just sit around and wait for the next disaster. We have the platform to raise awareness and funds.
It’s not just about the size of the donation, It’s about making a conscious decision to be part of the difference
How you can be involved:
THE CAMPAIGN
At a time of global disconnect Orca Sound Project will bring together a collection of visionaries. Together we will inspire new thought processes and behaviour whilst rethinking fundraising strategies which hold community building and experience at its heart.
Orca Sound Project presents to you a friends and family program of experiences live on Instagram TV to raise funds for The Mauritius Oil Spill.
