Synopsis for those not wishing to read too many words:
28 days - 500km - Cycling - Donations to Knitted Knockers of Northern Ireland
And for those who wish to read on...
As some people may know, in September 2020 my mum AKA ma / Big Ali 'The One Tit Wonder' was diagnosed with Breast cancer. It was a complete shock to the whole family and something we had never had to deal with before. Along with the stress of Covid and lockdowns and an altogether terrible year for my mum, this was just another issue that she didn't need to deal with.
As we had never dealt with breast cancer or anything close, it was very difficult for us to help mum with all the stresses and fears she had throughout the journey, leaving us feeling fairly helpless as to what we could do. Then along came Joanne with Knitted Knockers, who provides an amazing level of care and help for people dealing with Breast cancer, and who I cannot thank enough for all they did for mum.
Watching her go through it all, I cannot fathom the stress and fear going through my mums head, and to know how much it was eased by Knitted Knockers is why I decided to do a sponsored cycle in the month of February. 28days - 500km - as my sister Cathy did the math, that's an average of 17km a day. Anyone who knows me would not describe me as athletic or anything close, I much prefer the kind of bicycle with a motor rather than my 2 legs, so this will be a real challenge - but nothing compared to what men and women diagnosed with breast cancer have to deal with. I would hope to raise £500 (or more) for Knitted Knockers to help with all the events and services they provide out of their new base at Brownlow House which they have spent a great deal of time turning into an amazing place.
In addition, if anyone is interested in reading the journey and mad ramblings of 'The One Tit Wonder', you can also buy 'The Boob Blog' which the profits of which also go to support Knitted Knockers, you'll also see where I personally obtained my madness from...
And for anyone wondering - I will be doing this on a mixture of a Turbo Trainer, cycling on tow paths and mountain biking - keeping track of the mileage using Strava.
