Story

Everybody, Meet Olivia, she was born with a rare genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome. It is a complex genetic disorder which affects every aspect of my life. I have delayed development, mobility issues, and she has so much to say, but cannot speak, she is 7 years old and needs round the clock care from her mum and me. She needs help with everyday tasks including eating, dressing and all her personal care. 24/7/365 days a year care and will do so forever.

A major part of this condition includes minimal sleep, epilepsy, and seizures. I have severe mobility and balance issues compared to her siblings/peers and cannot walk long distances. Her balance is very unsteady, and she will often fall daily. Olivia is a very sociable little girl with her infectious smile! She loves being with her siblings Emily and Harry and exploring the world around her... This presents us numerous limitations to us a family. One of her favourite places to visit is the beach and local woods - which is hard for us to access as her everyday wheelchair does not allow us to get where we want to go, she loves the sea, as water is one of her favourite things. There have been many occasions we have carried her to these places. Recently, it has become increasingly harder to get to these places now as she gets older and heavier.

My difficulties will increase as I get older and therefore, we have started a fundraiser to help provide Olivia with an all-terrain wheelchair, so we can get her to the places we currently are missing out on.

To raise money for this wheelchair, my colleagues at work are embarking and training as we speak to take on the Dunwich-Dynamo cycle ride (a 115-mile ride, from London to Suffolk, at Night!!) to help support and raise money for us. This has inspired me, as a former couch potato to start training so I can join them on a sponsored virtual ride.

We really appreciate any help you can offer, and all donations will be gratefully accepted.
