Story
Peace Ride Challenge
Thank you for viewing our Just Giving page which we have set up ahead of a challenging Cycle Ride this March from the sports pitches at the University of Kent to the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium.
The Peace Ride is part of a Twinning process between the University of Kent Football Pitches and the iconic 'Peace Pitch' in Belgium where German and Allied soldiers famously downed their weapons and kicked a football on Christmas Day over 100 years ago. So long as we arrive on time we will have the privilege of laying a Poppy Football at the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing at the 8pm 'Last Post Ceremony Service' on Saturday 23rd March.
The Cause...
Oli & Lee are part of a team of 21 riders who will be are raising money for the National Children's Football Alliance and their unique Slum Soccer project in India which facilitates access to football and other essential provisions for children and families for whom poverty is an everyday challenge.
Please support us and this amazing cause to give a child the opportunity participate in the 2019 Global Peace Games and kick a football in hope of a better life. All donations count and will be transferred directly to the NCFA upon completion of the ride - more info on the ride, the charity and their work is available via http://www.childrensfootballalliance.com/

6 years agoLee and I would like to say a final Thank You as we close the page and transfer the funds directly to the National Children's Football Alliance. Along with some of the cash donations we have received we raised an amazing total of £700 which will contribute significantly to giving children from Chennai an opportunity to come to Belgium and participate in the Global Peace Games. Do not underestimate the difference you have made, Lee and I were privileged to ride on behalf of all your donations making the sweat & wind all worth it! Awesome

6 years agoGood Afternoon All, I am very pleased to inform you that Lee and I made it to the Menin Gate with 30 mins to spare before the Last Post Service on Saturday. After setting out in the saddle at 0545 we rolled into Ypres with sore back-sides at 1930. It was a slower and colder ride than we had hoped and the Kent Hills and the Pas-de-Calais windswept flat-lands proved an even challenge. The camaraderie of the group along with a constant supply of Jelly Babies kept us going and it was a great relief to roll into Ypres just in time.

6 years agoThank You for all your donations and messages so far. Its amazing to see our funds steadily rising towards our target and with just 20% to go! Lee and I have been out in the elements battling crazy winds to prepare for the ride and hope that the milder weather hangs around now until next weekend and we can ride in the sunshine all the way to Ypres. We are looking forward to the challenge and will of course update you all on our arrival next weekend - whatever the weather. Best Regards Oli & Lee
