Leeds Deaf Children Street Dance Xmas Party - DONE!

To enthuse and bond Leeds' dispersed deaf youth community, I am organising a street-dance Christmas gathering for the many deaf affected families.

Time with awesome professional deaf dance artists have already been secured for 15th December and funded via other means, but here we are covering other costs (details as arrangements evolve).

So much positive feedback!

It was amazing! Thank you so much for organising! Ixxxx hasn’t stopped talking about it!!

It was great, thank you for organising it all. See you at pantomime xx

Brill time had. Thanks ever so much for the hard work xx

Hxxxx had a fab time & would definitely be up for more dance sessions.

It was brilliant!! Mine keep doing the dance, they absolutely loved it,and great to see them all getting on so well after the dance workshop. We are definitely interested in more sessions!!

My girls enjoyed it too, they did the dance during another Party in the afternoon.

#NovPlus1

My challenge to promote this fundraising will be to...

Run *each day* in November, the number of miles as the day of the month e.g. 1st will be 1 mile....15th will be 15 miles....30th will be 30 miles. Totalling 465 miles through November!

I attempted this last year and completed day 19 before bowing out due to imminent injury (no good as a run leader). This year, I have trained, I have dieted, I am keeping the leader decks clear so WILL run to completion or injury in order to support deaf children.

Target

**UPDATE** The original target has been met, we are now helping support future events for Leeds Deaf Children's Society - remember this is a volunteer-run group so everything is used for the supporting activities.

The (original) target figure was simply the minimum miles I need to run! (465)

Since its more than the anticipated level for the party, the remainder will be given to the local not-for-profit volunteer group Leeds-DCS to support the other deaf family events through the year (e.g. pantomime trip, ice skating, soft play).

Families with deaf children frequently feel isolated since years of government cuts have left (less than) skeleton support in all aspects. The earlier we can support deaf/hearing impaired children (like my son), the more independently capable they are in later life. Therefore, it's essential the community helps itself by regularly meeting and supporting each other.

The secured street dance artists really are inspirational to the children, with many already following them on Social Media.

The Street Dance Workshop went down an absolute storm! We're now already trying to see what we can do to set up further workshops for the group. I can't publicly post pictures of the LDCS kids but here's Daniel the very NEXT DAY as he's now got the bug so returned to Koby Studio for their classes!!

Unbelievable stats (for me) - just shows that we can all grow to be the person to complete a challenge when needed.

My son has the rare auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, identified whilst being 3 months premature. The Leeds Deaf Childrens Society has helped him feel less isolated and see how normal hearing aids are. The group receives very little funding, therefore this is my payback.
