    Story

Just over a month ago, the staff and friends of University of Nottingham have raised over £4,200 to support the City of Ningbo to fight the novel coronavirus, a great show of kindness and solidarity of Nottingham to its twinned city in China.

And now with the Covid-19 crisis deepens in the UK and our National Health Service under unprecedented pressure to provide treatment and care for the nation, the Chinese community in Nottingham is pulling our strengths together to buy much needed medical supplies from China to reach our NHS in Nottingham as soon as possible.

Jointly launched by the Chinese colleagues at Asia Business Centre of the University of Nottingham (Min Rose, Nottingham City Council (Jason Yu) and Midlands Engine (Lai Xi), the fundraising will demonstrate that we are one truly global and civic community that transcends ethnicity, nationality and culture.

Dominick Shaw, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Nottingham and Honorary Consultant, Head of Service, Respiratory Medicine, Nottingham University Hospital Trust, greatly appreciates the support offered by the alumni and friends of University of Nottingham, as well as the wider Chinese community in Nottingham.

Currently Professor Shaw is busy preparing Nottingham’s respiratory services response to Covid-19. Therefore Professor Shaw has entrusted his friend and colleague, Prof Richard Hubbard, Professor of Respiratory Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, to act on his behalf to receive the masks and other related donations. Professor Hubbard is the UK Director of the Nottingham Healthcare China, the University’s strategic engagement platform for research and knowledge exchange with China’s healthcare sector supported by the Asia Business Centre.
