Story
When 8 adults and 1 2 year old decide to start a running club to raise money for charities. Some had never ran before, some had ran marathons, however, we have all decided to start training together twice a week, have fun and raise money for charities in the process. We are currently training for the following races:
First goal: Clanfield 5km on 19th May ✅
Second goal: Race for Life 10km on 7th July
Third goal: Great South Run (16km) on 20th October
This is why:
The British Red Cross
The British Red Cross helps millions of people in the UK and around the world get the support they need if crisis strikes. Recently, the local branch in Portsmouth helped one of our International students from Congo and brought him the comfort he needed whilst in a very difficult personal situation. The team at the British Red Cross was fantastic and welcomed him with open arms! We want to give something back to them for all the support they provided the student.
Fight for Sight
Fight for Sight's mission is to stop sight loss by funding pioneering eye research. This is a cause very close to our Director of Academic and Student Services' heart, Wendy Funnell, as Wendy's niece has a rare form of glaucoma (she woke up one morning with extremely blurred vision and a severe headache. Frightened, she immediately sought medical attention and later was told she had the condition Irido Corneal Endothelial Syndrome (ICE) - a rare form of glaucoma). She is working with Fight for Sight to raise awareness of the condition – one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. Her story can be found here: https://www.fightforsight.org.uk/news-and-views/articles/news/world-glaucoma-week-2019/
Fareham Nomads Swimming Club
A charity close to our Director of Marketing and Admission's heart, Noémie Plumridge, Fareham Nomads Swimming Club was formed in 1974 before there was a public pool in Fareham. Due to the lack of a home pool the Club took its name because in the early days it led a ‘nomadic’ existence, using various pools throughout the area for training until 1980 when Fareham Leisure Centre first opened. Recently, it has become increasingly difficult to secure pool time due to the collapse of the roof of it's main training centre putting the club into real difficulties. Without a swimming pool, the club could cease existing which would be dramatic for young generations in Fareham and Portsmouth and is currently raising money to build it's own swimming pool. However, £1.5 million is required to be able to achieve this.

5 years agoWe did it! Completed the 5 miles Chichester race yesterday! An off road flat race but attended by all the local running clubs so the standard was high! Well done Babs, Thania, Tanya, Dan and Noémie for smashing it!

5 years agoWe did it! Today was our 1st race - the Clanfield 5k - and everyone did extremely well. Despite a tough course, there were smiles all around at the finish line. So much so that we’re signing up for an additional 5k race in Chichester on 19th June 💪🏻 Thank you everyone for all the support so far, it means a lot!
