Story
Save the Children reports that 70% of young people currently experience climate anxiety, and 60% believe climate change and inequality are affecting their generation’s mental health.
Music and dance is proven to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all those who participate. At Society of Strays, bringing unique opportunities to move and make music to local communities is a driving factor in everything we do, and our latest project is no different.
No Plan Bee is a new, fun, family-friendly outdoor show for 5 performers, including a BSL interpreter performer, that champions sustainability and community. Funded by Arts Council England with commissions from North Shields Cultural Quarter and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, we will be working with young people to co-create physical and musical aspects of the show based on their own thoughts and feelings. We will then perform the show to hundreds of people in North Shields and at Between the Tides Festival.
We are looking to raise £1500 for this project. Your donation will:
- Give young people from isolated communities the chance to participate in fun and engaging workshops where their voices will be heard
- Support the hire of a coach which will allow the young people to travel to Between the Tides and see the work they have contributed to, as well as all the wonderful shows on offer
- Support the creation of new work made in the North East by North East artists that gives communities hope and the belief that small acts can make a big difference
As an added bonus, every penny over our target will go directly to our partners Climate Action North to support their fantastic work.
And if all of those reasons weren't enough to donate, on Saturday 19th April, Donna will be running the 21-mile Chelmsford Centenary Circle dressed as a bee! This will be the furthest she has ever run and is a nerve-wracking prospect as the route features a variety of terrain. "But I'm willing to give it a go to show my commitment to this project, and my faith in its potential to change lives for the better."
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Any amount you can donate will make a huge difference.
