Iʼve raised £2,555 to help buy a disabled access van for Nic as a result of her current van being written off in a motorway accident which also broke her neck!

Story
A few days ago my sister in law Nicola, niece Karen and Nicola's carer Nicole were all unfortunately involved in a motorway accident . They will all thankfully be ok, after a few broken bones heal (Nicola fractured a bone in her back/neck, Karen has broken her ankle and ribs and Nicola has hurt her ankle), but their disabled access van has been written off. Now it's time to appeal to the wonderfully kind nature of everyone out there to see if we can raise funds to get her back on the road again.
Nic has a severe degenerative condition called Hypophosphatemia which is a fancy way of saying her body does not absorb phosphate which we all need, in conjunction with calcium, to make our bones strong. The lack of phosphate has led to weak muscles and brittle bones, so much so she has also now been diagnosed with a form of brittle bone disease. Both conditions are made worse by a parathyroid condition. All of this leaves Nic very weak and unable to move much without specialist equipment such as hoists, a powered wheelchair and an adapted vehicle. Without these things, especially the van, she is effectively housebound.
Nic hates asking for help, she is so independent! With the help of carers, she lives in her own home and is a remarkable inspiration for everyone, not just those living with a disability. She campaigns for better access and disabled rights and is often seen drumming up support at various events across the country.
This is where we come in! She might not want to ask, but I'm happy to ask for her - it's an opportunity to give back :-)
We will be planning a fundraising event over the next few months (all ideas are welcome; the dafter the better) but in the meantime this page will be live for you to donate whatever you can, whenever you can, to help! If you fancy doing your own fundraising, please do! Let us know the details and all funds raised can be collected here so we can see how much our efforts are paying off.
Come on guys, you are all awesome, I know we can do this!!!!

6 years agoThank you so much to everyone that has donated so far. With external donations we are over £1,100 which is fantastic. We have had lots of interest in The Caber Walk with many friends keen to join in the challenge. As such, we have decided to postpone this until the Spring to allow for both better weather and to give everyone an appropriate amount of time to train - I'm sure you agree, we don't want any more injuries!! In the meantime, let's keep spreading the word. Every penny counts and is greatly appreciated! Lots of love Julie :-) xxxx
