Story
In 2020, my daughter Nicole was leading a normal life like any 20 year old girl with plans for the future like anyone of her age. Suddenly she was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain cancer, Anaplastic Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma (APXA). It caused a haemorrhage which left Nicole with left sided paralysis, severe visual impairment, and epilepsy, alongside difficulties with her short and long-term memory and thinking.
Basically, her world has radically changed. Instead of going to university, the hospitals and rehabilitation tools became her only friends. For the past 4 years, she has had various radiotherapies and chemotherapies to control the cancer, plus continuous rehab to re-learn how to drink, eat, control her bladder, walk and talk. She is currently undergoing extra target therapy due to her brain cancer recurrence.
Despite having to face cancer, we know that it is essential to further improve the quality of her life. Nicole suffered partial paralysis on one side, so we need to try acupuncture to stimulate the lost nerves to reconnect the nerves in her left arm and leg to regain movement which will make a huge impact on her quality of life and her health. After a few acupuncture sessions, we can already see some improvement in her face movement and the range of motion in her hand.
Both rehab and acupuncture can really make a difference but need to be repeated over a sustained period for maximum benefit as nerves grow back slowly. At least 3 sessions a week can enable Nicole to regain more of her physical abilities and confidence, and become more independent again for a better quality of life.
We are looking to raise a rehabilitation fund for Nicole to cover the cost of travel and therapy sessions. At roughly £200 per week, we could increase the frequency of therapy sessions for maximum effect and our initial target of £8000 would cover 9 months of treatment.
Every penny you donate will be spent on Nicole's treatment. Thank you in advance for your generosity and kind support. We really appreciate it.
