Story
Baxter had palate and nare surgery June last year! I thought this would be the answer to my prayers. However It wasn't, he still brings up foam, is sick after eating and can only go on short walks, as he becomes out of breath and becomes very noisy due to struggling to breath. Baxter will be 3 in September, so this is not a life for a young dog.
Baxters is still requiring to breath through his mouth not his nose. His snoring is louder then ever, which I must stress is not normal at all. Baxter suffers with BOAS which stands for brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome. He has sleep apnea, as he can't breath through his nose, when he falls asleep he wakes up in a jolt gasping for breath when laying down. He try's to sleep sitting up, so he can breath better. I also have to hand feed him, so his head is in a higher position. All these symptoms are common in a dog suffering with BOAS. Whilst researching I become aware of Dr Oechtering who pioneered a surgery called LATE laser assisted terbinectomy. Which removes excess tissue and cartilage from the nose enabling flat faced dogs to breath. He has wrote many articles on this procedure and why soft palate and nare surgery are not always effective. As years of breeding within flat faced breeds their snouts have got smaller, hence flat faced! But their internal make up hasn't, which has resulted with the issues Baxter is facing!
Dr Oechtering is the professor of the ears, nose and throat at Leipzig university and has been doing this pioneering procedure for 10 years now.
I was so reluctant to set this page up, as unfortunately with any giving page you can receive lots of negative comments! However I need help with raising funds for his surgery. I'm not asking for the full amount, as this will exceed £4500 not including travel.
Baxter is insured to a max of £2000, however it's becoming increasingly difficult to sort out and time is running out! He is booked in for surgery on the 8th of May.
thank you.
