Iʼve raised £1,165 to give to Linden Brook, a residential service in Calderdale that provides respite and family support for children with disabilities.

Funded on Tuesday, 28th February 2017

    Story

As many of you know, our dear friend Nicky Bray recently celebrated her 40th birthday by hosting an all-ages all-day gig party disco at Wharf Chambers. Being the selfless and thoughtful person Nicky is, she requested that rather than bring a gift for her, those attending made a 'Pay What You Feel' donation on the door instead, with all proceeds going to Linden Brook respite centre for disabled children.

During the evening however, it transpired that the donations bucket was no longer where it should have been. We can only assume that someone saw a callous opportunity and took it.

Obviously this is an awful and incomprehensible thing to have happened for a number of reasons, not least because what should have been a very special day for Nicky has now been tinged with sadness. It’s also extremely difficult to comprehend that someone would choose to do such a thing at a venue as safe, friendly and inclusive as Wharf Chambers, who were also really sorry to hear what had happened.

In light of the above, we thought the best way to make amends would be to offer anyone who didn't have the chance to donate before the bucket disappeared, or was unable to attend the party but would still like to make a donation, the opportunity to do so, in the hope that we can still raise some money to go towards helping Linden Brook continue to provide the wonderful service that it does.

    Thank you x

      Update from the Page owner

On behalf of Nicky and myself, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to Nicky's cause. Thanks to you kindness and generosity, it's raised far more money for Linden Brook than we ever expected - and it's a wonderful shining example of how the good in some people can often outweigh the bad in others. Thank you so very much. Kerry x

(Nicky again!) So BBC Radio Leeds thought this was a lovely story of the kindness and generosity of a community rallying together to help others (they were right!) and invited me in to do a short interview about it, which was also a great opportunity to mention the amazing work of Linden Brook on air. It's available on iPlayer to listen again until 17 March at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04r99qg (starting at 2:50:46) x

(This is Nicky posting under Kerry's log in!) A massive thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to this hugely deserving cause: those who donated on or after the day, those who shared it on Facebook (the power of social media!), my bandmates and all the others who performed for free and, along with everyone there, made it such a fantastic event, and Kerry Ramsay for her huge heart. You're all a wonderful example of kindness and of a community rallying together to help others. I'm overwhelmed by the response and so is Linden Brook! x
