Story

The National Health Supporters Choir is made up of NHS staff and supporters, and we are releasing our charity single "Super Heroes" to raise funds for NHS staff's mental health and wellbeing at this very challenging time. All profits from the single, and other donations raised, will be split evenly between the Healthcare Workers' Foundation and the Intensive Care Society.

NHS staff are facing relentless pressures on services. Recent YouGov research shows that over 55% of staff have experienced a mental health toll from the pandemic, with many reporting depression, anxiety or post traumatic stress. At the same time, as normal services resume there are huge areas of backlog and clinics that are busier than ever.

"Super Heroes" is a choral arrangement of an original song by Dr Rony Berrebi. His version of "Super Heroes" was written, recorded and released in 2020 to raise funds for life-changing mental health and PTSD treatment for frontline NHS staff who were caring for COVID-19 patients.

This new arrangement by NHSC choir director Jenny Deacon (Sweet Charity Choir, The Lounge Kittens) was written, recorded and mastered remotely while NHSC could not meet in person. The video, filmed and edited by Alex Harvey-Brown (Savannah Photographic), was shot at the first in-person rehearsal following the lifting of certain covid restrictions.

Tuesday 5th July 2022 is the NHS' 74th Birthday - please donate what you can to ensure that our NHS staff are getting the support they need.

We are so grateful to the National Health Supporters Choir for supporting us as one of the charities to benefit from the proceeds of their single ‘Super Heroes’. As a charity led by healthcare workers, for healthcare workers, HWF offers a variety of services to support the wellbeing and emotional health of our beneficiaries, including counselling, financial support, respite breaks and rest room refurbishment. Like all small charities, we are experiencing a fundraising downturn due to the cost-of-living crisis and so the support of the Choir means more than ever. This will make a huge difference to us, not only financially, but also the vital awareness it will spread of our important work. Thank you all for the incredible support, it means the world to us.

Julie Child, CEO of the Healthcare Workers’ Foundation
