Newton St Cyres teachers and parents will be running the Exeter Great West Run half marathon on Sunday 13th October 2019 to raise money to pay for outdoor play equipment at Newton St Cyres primary school and would love your support by donating here.

In May 2018 Newton St Cyres primary school (www.newton-st-cyres.devon.sch.uk/) moved to new premises in Newton St Cyres village.

Much of the school equipment and resources were moved into the new premises but unfortunately, all the outdoor playground equipment was too old or unsuitable to move. The school has been lucky enough to negotiate a 3 year payment plan which enabled installation of the play equipment from July 2019.

However, approximately £6,000 is needed by April 2021 for the final year payment and the school PTFA group, entitled FANS (Friends Association of Newton St Cyres school) are fundraising for these monies. FANS aim is to enhance the day-to-day experience of all children in the school by providing resources and experiences that the limited school budget can’t.

Teachers and parents have been training hard over the last few months for the Exeter Great West Run half marathon; learning about dedication, time management and how much legs can hurt.

Quick runs before school or work and at lunchtimes, long runs during free time at the weekends, anytime runs to keep us going have all been part of our routine. We've shared new routes, joined running clubs, chased times at Parkruns, taken part in 10k events, sweated, had blisters, compared times, been downhearted and celebrated our successes.

For some of us it has been our first steps into the running world; for others another leg on our journey but we've all put in the time and effort knowing we can bring smiles to children's faces with things they can climb on, jump off, run around and use to create imaginative play during their free time in the school day.
