Story
Siphila Sonke(www.siphilasonke.org.za), which means ‘We Live Together,’ strives to support and improve the quality of life of desperately poor families in the informal settlement near the village of Grabouw and the farming community of Elgin, in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Siphila Sonke's vision is to live in a caring community where no vulnerable person is left unassisted; where children are cared for, safe and assisted to fulfil their potential.
Their mission is to provide physical, spiritual and emotional support for those who are chronically ill, vulnerable and/or destitute in Grabouw; these beneficiaries receive support to regain their health, dignity and confidence, so that they may resume their role in the community.
In June 2022 we plan to walk the 500miles (800km) of the French Way of St James, Camino de Santiago across northern Spain. We would like to raise £1 for each mile we walk to assist the good work done by Siphila Sonke.

3 years agoAt about 11:45am on Sunday, as the cathedral bells were ringing out for the midday Mass, we walked into the square in Santiago where the Camino officially ends and pilgrims meet to celebrate and share stories. So ends a most wonderful adventure. Thank you all so much for your love and support. Buen Camino!

3 years agoJust like the Pilgrims in this statue, Christine and I will be dancing into Santiago tomorrow. We've already completed 799km / 496miles. Just 19km / 12miles to go. What an experience it has been!

3 years agoAt the pilgrims' Mass in O Cebreiro on Sunday night, Fr Francisco invited me to read his homily in English after he preached it in Spanish. So it's a busman's holiday, then. It was a huge privilege and I found it very moving.
