Story
In July 2023 a group of 11 students and 3 staff members from Newcastle College will be travelling to rural South Africa (Kwa Zulu Natal, Nkandla region) working in partnership with schools and orohanages teaching leadership through sport and facilitating life changing dual learning for students from both communities.
Students are currently learning with up to 60 learners in a classroom, often with no or limited power and wifi, and many will face a 2 hour walk to and from school daily. There is also very limited sport provision, largely due to the lack of funding and equipment.
To further increase the impact of our visit in July, from 17-19th May 2023 a team of Newcastle College staff and students will be completing the Goggins Challenge to raise vital funds for Schools and Orphanages we will be working with over the summer, enabling us to buy sporting equipment that we can deliver to them during our visit.
This challenge will see us run 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours. In total we will run 48 miles over the course of the challenge.
This will be a physical and mental challenge and the team greatly appreciate any support you can give.
