“Are You Still Nasty?”

Nasty Women North East* are ecstatic to announce that we will be hosting the first ever international Nasty Women Conference at the stunning

http://www.thoughtfoundation.co.uk/visit

We are so happy that we will be be joined by Nasty Women from around the world including one of the co-founders of the Nasty Women movement, New York based artist Roxanne Jackson. It has been an astonishing year for Nasty Women- the movement has raised over $250,000 through around 60 events involving 2957 artists. The conference will be an opportunity for people who are already involved in the movement and people who are interested in being involved to get together- celebrate our huge successes, share our less successful moments (and what we’ve learned from them!) and plan for an exciting, creative and useful future.

In order to make this fantastic event happen we need to raise money for the following things:

Speaker expenses (air fares, train tickets, accommodation and food) £500

Volunteer expenses (travel expenses, food, health and safety training, DBS checks, childcare costs) £100

Marketing and PR costs (design work, website, curator space profile, professional PR support) £400

Conference and exhibition expenses (refreshments for delegates, hanging materials, tech support, hiring equipment) £400

•Just Giving Fees and contingency £100

Total£1,500

*Notes:

Nasty Women is a global creative, campaigning and fundraising movement started in New York in 2016, using art as a tool for social change particularly in relation to women’s right. http://nastywomenexhibition.org/about/

Nasty Women North East (previously Nasty Women Newcastle) are a wildly eclectic group of Nasty Women- a collective of artists / activists from the North East of England who originally came together in Feb ’17 to organise the first ever “Nasty Women” * exhibition in the UK. For us “Nasty Women” is not a physical, party political or biological definition. We welcome all self-defining Nasty Women who share our values of making work that is inclusive, generous and useful, with an overarching theme of protecting human rights (focusing on Women’s, refugee & LGBTQ+ rights). We are based at Byker Community Centre (BCC), our first exhibition was held here to raise money for, and awareness of, the centre’s Women Group and local LGBTQ+ campaigning group “the Fed”.

“the Fed” http://www.lgbtfed.com/ is a campaigning organisation for LGBTQ+ rights, particularly focusing on the North East

Byker Community Association (registered charity 701348), based at Byker Community Centre (BCC). Run by the community for the community (with two paid staff and a team of around 20 volunteers), we work with people of all ages and in many different circumstances in our wonderfully diverse community of Byker and beyond.
