Story

Hi! My name is Amaia and here I am, celebrating turning 10 years old with my mum.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, where we hope to raise at least £1500 for Martin House Children’s Hospice by running the April 2024 London Marathon.

Any donations beyond £1500 will be equally split between Martin House and towards buying me a specialist, all terrain, wheelchair.

Here's me as a baby. A whole decade has passed and yet my mum still loves telling everyone about how I was born in the car outside Mike’s Carpets in Armley.

From that first moment, she knew I loved the outdoors.... and she was right! I recently did 12 peaks in my chair with family and friends. I have tried skiing and I love swimming.

But that’s not the whole story.....

We didn’t always know that I would grow to become such a big girl. I was born with a rare genetic condition which means I need help to live my best life.

Sometimes this help comes from places like Martin House Children’s Hospice - where I regularly go with my parents and my dog, because they support children like me, with life limiting conditions, at the best and worst of times. https://www.martinhouse.org.uk/

And sometimes this help comes from having specialist equipment, which can often cost a bomb!

So, to celebrate me being a big 10 year old – and to raise money for both these things - my mum is dusting off her running shoes to do the 2024 London Marathon.

We would like to raise £1500 to help Martin House to continue to support children in Yorkshire. Any donations beyond this amount will be equally split between Martin House and towards buying me a specialist, all terrain, wheelchair.

You see, as I get older, so does my mum ;) and apparently, she needs a bit of help these days getting me up the hills.

Thank you for anything you can donate. Every penny helps.

XOXO Amaia
