Iʼve raised £1,100 to paint a community COVID mural in Whitstable

    Story

This last year has been historic. The challenge of COVID 19 has revealed some incredible goodwill in our community - a will and spirit which we should never forget.

The 'mystery mural' is a project designed to help our children and community to remember how community-spirit prevailed during the pandemic. The mural will be full of positivity, reflections on children's experiences and celebrating those people we love (family at home, family a long way away, those who have inspired others).

    The project is simple.

A local primary school have agreed that their children will do drawings and designs based on their experience of lockdown. This will begin next week.

Then a local artist will take the children's designs and using those designs will paint up a wall in our town that is prone to graffiti tags.

All permissions for the use of this large wall have already been gained.

We need to raise £1000 from the community to make this project happen. Any extra raised will be donated to the FAR Academy in Whitstable to help run street art projects with local young people.

The mural will appear one year after we went into lockdown to help us remember those lost and improve the environment for us all.

A huge thanks to Sam Giles for throwing up the mural this week. It now has pride of place at the bottom of Stream Walk. We hope you enjoy it

We've done it! A huge thanks to everyone who has donated to this wonderful community mural. The artist has confirmed the first draft will be shared with the kids this Friday and look out for it appearing the third month of March.

100% love this! Apparently Maugham’s aunts lived in our cottage and he’d spend his summers there as a child, instead of staying with his uncle down the road at the vicarage.
