Story
During September 2019, some friends and I are completing an extreme (deconstructed) triathlon in aid of a school in Harare, Zimbabwe- Jon is cycling 400kms (248.5 miles), Calum is running 126.6kms (78 miles) and I will swim the equivalent of the English Chanel 33.8km (21 miles) in order to raise the funds to provide the school with basic books and utensils and in the long term, a source of available electricity and water for the school. We'll complete our disciplines over the course of the month around our usual jobs and commitments.
When we are preparing for exams at school or begin a new term, we might not be excited about the exam but most of us get excited about the new stationery we're going to be using, we get excited about the new pencil case and the new pads of fresh paper which we write so neatly on. Unfortunately for students at Mutake Primary school that is not an option without some outside help. We want to provide all of the Grade 7 students (Y6 UK equivalent) with a new book, pen, pencil and ruler to do the end of primary school exams and take into secondary school. We would also like to provide 138 students from the school who have achieved something this year with a small prize ($5) for academic/sporting achievements over the year.
The long term plan is to provide a solar generator that powers the school's borehole and gives electricity to the wider school. A previously funded generator broke in November 2017 and water from the borehole has not been accessed since. New funding would mean no long walks for the school, and water could be used for drinking, cooking and improved sanitation.
If you can help with a small contribution, we have the people close to the school who can take the items to the school.
'Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world' Nelson Mandela.
Empowering the next generation will make a massive difference! Thank you

6 years agoHi all, if your following on Facebook, you will have seen the awesome news that we did it... Calum ran 126.8kms, Jon cycled an incredible 500kms and I swam 34.6kms all in the month of September. 30 days in which we slotted in runs, rides and swims around family life. It was hard work but really worth it. Thanks for your support folks, we really appreciate, not just me and the triathletes. All of the kids at Mutake school and all of the teachers and admin staff who look after the school.

6 years agoHey folks, this week has seen lots of work going on... Jon has got up to 341of his 400kms, Calum has run 76 kms out of 126 so far and I've now swum 17.5kms...for all of us, there is now less than half to do but we are starting to feel the burn... Help us out by sharing this with anyone you know and donating if you can, it makes it loads easier to go through the barrier when we see the donations racking up. Much love and respect to you all! 😁
