Men’s Sexual Health Matters
Men’s Sexual Health Matters (MSHM) is a UK-based research and advocacy organisation dedicated to advancing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for men. We work to understand and address men’s unique SRH challenges, ensuring they are not left behind in policy, research, and healthcare provision.
Why does this matter?
Men’s SRH is not just about individual wellbeing – it affects families, partners, and wider public health. Despite growing and urgent challenges, men’s SRH remains a neglected area in policy and healthcare in the UK.
Men’s SRH in the UK:
– STIs are surging: Rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), particularly gonorrhoea, have risen in 97% of English local authorities since 2017 and syphilis cases are now at their highest level for 75 years
– HIV cases are also on the rise: Diagnoses of HIV increased by 7% in gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), and by 51% among heterosexual men outside of London, between 2019 and 2023
– Rising male infertility is not being adequately addressed poorly understood: Despite rapid decline in fertility rates, an estimated 29% of UK healthcare professionals exhibit significant knowledge gaps on male contribution to infertility
Why we need your support:
For too long, men’s SRH has been overlooked in UK policy and funding, resulting in critical knowledge gaps, rising infection rates, and inadequate healthcare provision. While the 2025 Men’s Health Strategy may marks a step forward, there remains a need for dedicated policy targeting men's SRH as a priority. Your investment in research and advocacy is essential to:
– Drive evidence-based solutions: Funding supports research to better understand and address male infertility, STI prevention, and the sexual health needs of diverse male populations.
– Push for stronger policy action: Government attention follows public demand. Your support strengthens our ability to advocate for comprehensive men’s SRH policies.
– Ensure accessible healthcare: With better research and policy focus, we can work towards improving SRH education, prevention, and treatment services for men across the UK.
By giving today, you are helping to transform men’s SRH – not just for individuals, but for their partners, families, and communities. Every contribution enables us to fight for improved research, improved services, and stronger policy commitments.
