Story
It’s More Than Just a Dance
Morris dancing is rooted in tradition, community, and history. For centuries, it has brought people together—but today, it’s about more than just preserving the past. It’s about making a difference, right here, right now.
That’s why we’re taking things a step further. Yes, we dance at charity events and pass the hat around for local causes—but we know we can do more. That’s how the idea of breaking a world record was born (probably in the pub).
The Challenge
After some back-and-forth with Guinness World Records—and a lot of optimism—Duncan decided to take on an epic challenge: a solo morris dancing marathon. He’ll be dancing for as long as he possibly can.
If you’ve ever seen morris dancing, you’ll know it’s essentially high-energy jogging on the spot. Which means even an hour is exhausting. But Duncan is aiming for much, much longer.
He’s laced up his trainers, trained for months, and by the time he completes this challenge, he will have effectively "danced" over 1,000km (even if he never moves from the spot!).
And you can be part of it!
📍 Join us in Abingdon Marketplace on Saturday, April 12th.
The dancing starts early, but the big moment—smashing the record—should happen around 4:00 pm. Come down, cheer Duncan on, and be part of something incredible!
If you can’t make it in person, you can still be part of the challenge in a powerful way: by donating.
The Charities
We’re raising money for two vital local organisations, both making a real difference:
🌍 One Planet Abingdon / Climate Emergency Centre
A volunteer-run community hub dedicated to tackling the climate crisis and building a more sustainable future—right in the heart of Abingdon.
🚗 Abingdon & District Volunteer Centre
Providing transport for vulnerable residents who need to attend urgent medical appointments—helping people who might otherwise struggle to get the care they need.
How You Can Help
This challenge is about more than a world record—it’s about supporting causes that change lives.
💙 Every donation, big or small, makes a real impact.
