Story

Morningside Dance Academy is an Edinburgh dance school with studios on Grange Road and in Morningside. Founded in 1984, since its inception MDA has gone from strength to strength, and this year its’ competition team have been selected to represent Scotland in the Dance World Cup 2019 which is taking place in Portugal at the beginning of July.

MDA will be fielding 7 soloists, 2 duets, and 5 different group dances, and a total of over 20 dancers from MDA will be taking part in this huge and prestigious event – the holy grail for young dancers! We are the only troupe from Edinburgh who have been selected for this once in a lifetime opportunity, and it is a tremendous honour for MDA’s dancers to be asked to form part of the Scotland team.

Although the dancers are thrilled to have been asked to take part, being selected to dance is only the first step, however! The event takes place in Portugal over 10 days in July and to take part, all the dancers will have to fund their travel, and accommodation in Braga for the entire 10 days of the event, as the timetable is only released a few weeks before the event itself. The dancers are working hard to raise enough money to be able to take the whole team to Portugal, as well as training hard for the event itself - many of them are committing at least 15 hours a week to dance training on top of school work.

If you would be willing to support the dancers who are planning to attend we would be incredibly grateful. Any contribution, however small, would be massively appreciated, and would help make sure that everyone selected can take part in the experience of a lifetime.
