We're climbing Mount Snowdon to raise money for our Visual Impairment Centre of Excellence!

At Montem Academy, we are passionate about inclusion and ensuring that all children, despite their needs, have access to a full, enriched curriculum and are supported to reach their full potential. In recent years, Montem has had the privilege of welcoming many more children with profound visual impairments into our school community. We have worked hard, supported by the Berkshire Sensory Consortium Service, to ensure children have the specialist teaching and resources that they need, but as need is growing across Slough for this type of provision, we aspire to expand our current provision to provide high quality support to even more children.

Our dream is to open a purpose-built centre to support the education of children with visual impairments. Here, children will have access to high quality lessons and personalised teaching to equip them with the skills they need in order to access learning alongside their peers in the classroom. Children will be supported by trained staff and members of the Sensory Consortium Service to learn key skills such as braille, self care and food preparation. High quality resources and specialised equipment will be purchased to ensure children face no barriers in accessing learning and achieving highly. We will also install a sensory room, which other pupils around the school will also be able to access, to support pupils to explore their senses and regulate their emotions. The centre will also serve as a local Visual Impairment Hub to facilitate training for education staff across Slough, and support for parents of children with visual impairments.

A group of Montem staff members, including our Principal Ms Probert, will be climbing Mount Snowdon on Saturday 18th May 2024 to raise sponsorship money towards this worthy cause.
