    Story

Bake for Ukraine Bake for Ukraine has been supporting volunteer bakeries since Russia’s full scale war began - helping to feed people in need. They now want to purchase a mobile bakery to provide an even more responsive solution to food supply problems - and get fresh bread to people who haven’t had access to it for months. The truck is in good working order and capable of baking 2,000 loaves on board, powered by a generator - a crucial way to continue baking, amid Russia’s constant attempts to strike at Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure. We intend to purchase the vehicle along with a generator, and supply the start up costs as well as ongoing support with fuel and ingredients. I have been to visit some of the bakeries in Odesa and Kyiv which Bake for Ukraine has been helping to continue baking free bread, much of it destined for frontline communities who live under frequent shelling - and they are truly inspiring: stories of resilience and hope. Now we want to bring the gift of bread to even more people - with your support.

Hello everyone! While we wait for the papers to allow the mobile bakery to travel - we’ve been using our funds to help a really amazing social kitchen in Kharkiv and Izyum run by the Myrne Nebo charity. I visited their kitchens in June and they do amazing work making thousands of free hot meals and bread every day - but they were using really old and clapped out equipment which badly needed replacing. We’ve already dispatched them a large spiral dough mixer which is in use already - and two seven tonne deck ovens are on the way too!

Our beautiful Odesa came under attack again last night… I am back in London, everyone from Bake for Ukraine is safe, the mobile bakery is now outside the big aid distribution hub in the city centre and we continue the mission. Photo by Oleksander Baron.

Wonderful thing to do. I've just heard the Food Programme article and have been very moved. Bread is so significant for many of us.
