Story
As many of you know my parents are deaf and as long as I can remember I have been involved with the Deaf community becoming a trustee for the Ipswich Deaf Society. Over recent years funding for Charities like ours has decreased and Ipswich Deaf Society was created after the previous organisation ceased to exist. We mostly rely on donations for the running of Ipswich Deaf Society.
Before the Ipswich Deaf Society was created one of the last things to happen was the previous premises was sold and a move to a new premises occured.
This premises we moved to wasn’t really designed for the some of the purposes that the charity want to meet and so now we are aiming to raise funds to redesign the centre and make it more suitable and fit for purpose for the Deaf Community as well as their family and friends.
In September this year I am running the Ipswich Half Marathon to raise funds for the refurbishment of the centre, the Ipswich and District Deaf children Society are now using the centre and we want to make this a fun and welcoming place for them as they are the future of the IDS and the Deaf comminity in Ipswich and surrounding areas. Also the Deaf Community in ipswich hace a large number of older Deaf people who we want to be able to come to the centre in the day time and be able to meet their frIends.
As well as the half marathon, Im hoping to hold other fundraising events such as a quiz night on 28th September 2018.......more details to follow.
I would just like to thank the other trustee‘s for their support with this as well as CPS Architecture & Design Studio for their help that they have already provided with the start of the refurbishment by agreeing to complete some plans.
Please look at the Facebook page for Ipswich Deaf Society for information regarding the refurbishment, upcoming events and updates on my progress.

6 years agoSo it’s just over 4 weeks to go till the half marathon, training with some wonderful people and on target to make the half marathon. I completed the Twilight 10k in 1hr 9mins which I was really happy with. Running around 10 miles at moment and I’m due to take part in the Mersey Island 10 mile race on the 26th August which should provide a good indication of how I am continuing to progress. Raised £150 so far towards my target and am really grateful to those who have donated so far. There’s still time to donate if you wanted to 😀

I have been involved with the Deaf community for as long as I can remember due to my parents Deafness. I hope to raise as much as I can so that the Deaf community can continue and become stronger and be able to provide the support to all in the future.
