Story

Why am I doing this?

I am passionate about electric vehicles. The moment I test drove one, I was obsessed. Not only are they a dream to drive, they are far better for the environment and that’s why I believe we need to all think about transitioning to electric as soon as possible.

I’ve been driving electric for about three years and they are better than ‘normal’ cars in almost every way. But what about public charging? That’s a mess, right?

I want to prove that long distances are just as painless as in a combustion engine vehicle and you don’t just need a Tesla to do it. (See the new record for shortest charging time set in a Tesla very recently)

I’ll be driving around in my Kia e-Niro - a fantastic long range electric car. I’ve previously driven long distances - across America and, most recently, to Rome and back - but those were with my wife. This time I’ll be flying solo.

Also - I’ll get back home as I turn 40 so I feel this might be a good way of celebrating. Or perhaps the worst. We’ll see...

What’s the money for?

I want to raise money for charity, although I will have some costs first...

I’ll be staying overnight in Land’s End and John O’Groats (£160 in total - the cheapest places I could find) and while I’m away I’ll be renting a small electric car for my wife to use. EVision have kindly offered me an EV at half price for a week which is £168 + insurance. On top of all that there’s charging costs on the journey of course. I want to be completely transparent so I’ll update with the exact costs as soon as I have them.

Everything else will be split between the following charities:

Stroke Association - I had a mini-stroke recently and their support was great.

British Lung Foundation - because they know how much damage pollution from fossil cars does to us. They campaign tirelessly to raise awareness of air pollution.

Great Ormond Street Hospital - Flaviana and I are typical worrying parents. I hope we never have to take Aurelia there, but what a relief to know such a hospital exists. They give hope to desperate parents and life to children. What a place.

Follow my progress

I have a YouTube channel about electric cars so I’ll be documenting the journey there as well as Twitter.

Thank you!
