Story
I am currently in my second year studying Midwifery at Bradford University. I have been given the opportunity to travel to Ghana for two weeks, volunteering my own time to provide less fortunate women with the prenatal and postnatal care they deserve. To achieve my goal, I need your help to raise £1,500 to cover my own fees such as accommodation, visa fees, travel and the supplies that I will be taking with me. I will be taking personal spending money and any social activities will be paid for by myself.
I gave up my own business two years ago in order to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a midwife. It wasn't easy and I have made many sacrifices, but my dreams are finally beginning to come true. When I was given this opportunity, I jumped at the chance to learn and develop my own midwifery knowledge. I want to provide women with a positive birth experience I had when I had my own children.
I will be undertaking this placement through an organisation called Work The World. They offer healthcare placements in developing countries, such as Africa, Asia and South America, specialising in offering quality healthcare to disadvantaged communities around the world. Here, I will experience how maternity services are facilitated in a developing country. This opportunity will aid me in developing my own midwifery practise and gain a wider understanding of the challenges women face in accessing maternal care.
Any donation, large or small would be greatly appreciated in order to give me the chance to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity, giving safe and effective healthcare and changing lives. Thank you!
